Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha has asked police officers to prioritise service delivery saying anything less than that will not be tolerated.
Speaking on Monday after chairing a high profile security meeting at a Nakuru hotel, the commissioner said officers who compromise security were not in his plans.
“Our mandate is to ensure that citizens are safe at all times and as the head of security, I will not encourage underperformance,” he said.
Nkanatha advised the officers to strategise on a working formula that will help contain crime in the county, saying crime hinders service delivery which in turn affects development.
“As much as totally wiping out crime is a hurdle, we ought to come up with a winning formula that will help us execute our mandate effectively. Everything is now in our capacity as chief security agents,” he asserted.
Nakuru has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the recent past with the most recent one being a case where an officer was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officials after he was allegedly found soliciting bribes from residents in conjunction with a Kenya Power employee.
The commissioner called for professionalism and commitment saying such cases were an indication of misplaced priorities.
“Service is a calling where all of us took an oath to serve the people diligently at all times, such lapses should not be expected in Nakuru,” he noted.
The meeting brought together senior police bosses, AP commanders, sub-county commissioners and county detectives.
