Over 60 youth who applied for national identification cards underwent vetting on Thursday and Friday in Athi River town.

Mavoko assistant county commissioner David Tegutwa said the exercise targeted youth from Mavoko.

"We have vetted over 60 youth seeking national identification cards here at my offices since Thursday," Tegutwa told Hivisasa.com on Friday.

Tegutwa who spoke in his office after the exercise said the exercise is done after every three months.

According to Tegutwa, the vetted youth were those residing in Mavoko sub-county but who come from boarder areas like Athi River, Bungoma, Migori, Busia, Bumala and Marsabit.

The commissioner said the exercise is important since it enables the government to issue national identification cards to Kenyans whose backgrounds have thoroughly been investigated.

Tegutwa said the vetting during IDs issuance is one of the most important strategies of abetting crime in the region since youth are taken through thorough interrogations before being cleared for the document.

The vetting team also comprised of Mlolongo assistant county commissioner, Obed Mose, and several area chiefs and their assistants.
