Kibra Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee has warned the national government against any attempt to slash the kitty to raise money to pay the striking teachers.
This comes just a day after National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale suggested that the MPs allow the government to slash the funds allocated for the kitty to help sort out the stalemate between teachers and their employer, the Teachers Service Commission.
Kibra CDF committee chair Leah Asego has criticised Duale's suggestion terming it as a move that will derail development in constituencies.
"CDF is meant to benefit the citizens and it should not be interfered with by anybody. It is the taxpayers money that directly benefits them within their constituencies. Let the government look for money elsewhere and not from these funds," said Asego during her address to media on Tuesday.
She has warned that various beneficiaries of the fund would be greatly affected should the government make a move of taking part of the money.
"This is the fund that has helped many students go to school and thus reducing illiteracy. If the common mwananchi is denied this opportunity, many students will drop out of school because of lack of school fees since they depend on bursaries," she added.
