Three unlicensed bars in Juja town were shut down on Wednesday evening as the war on unlicensed bars and illicit liquor intensifies.
Four bar attendants were also arrested during the raid which was led by Thika West Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru, District Administration Police Commander Samuel Ombonya and Juja MP Francis Munyua, chiefs and other officers.
According to Gicheru, concerned residents notified Munyua about the activities of the bars. The MP later called him and arranged for the evening raid.
He said that they had been targeting the evening hours as they had been informed the exact time that they operate.
The four bar attendants will be arraigned in court on Thursday morning to face charges of operating a business without licence and also selling unapproved products therefore risking the lives of consumers.
Munyua condemned the incident saying that Juja residents have rejected such bars and he will not let any of them re-open even if the county government approves them.
He added that the war against counterfeits and illicit brews has been intensified by everyone in Juja citing the Kenya Revenue Authority officials who have been disbursing validators to business persons and security officers to enable them identify genuine products.
“Everyone has joined me and happy that the war is still on. We will not relent now that the whole government including the Kenya Revenue Authority has indulged into this fight and we are sure to emerge victorious at last,” the MP said.
