Women in Bitunwa, Nyamira County have raised concerns over the rising cases of domestic violence and are now calling on authorities to take action against those perpetuating the vice.
The women protested on Thursday, saying that cases of women being battered by their husbands in the area were on the rise.
They claimed that those engaging in domestic violence were left unpunished despite the cases being reported to the authorities.
The women, led by Mrs Pauline Ongoro, marched to the area chief’s office and urged him to take legal action against men who drinking alcohol and batter their wives.
"Some have formed a habit of getting drunk and beating their wives. We will not allow this to go on," Ongoro said.
The women called on the chief to ensure that the culprits are brought to book to curb impunity.
Area Chief Mr Franc Ombogo however said he has never received any report about women being abused by their husbands.
He condemned the vice and said that he will take necessary steps to eliminate it, if it exist in the area.
