The proposed Bunge Mashinani initiative by the county government of Nyamira has got a surprise rebellion from two MCAs from the region.

House business committee chaired by Speaker Joash Nyamoko had resolved to hold the sitting in every sub-county for the months of October and November with the first sitting expected this week.

However, two MCAs; Ben Sironga of Rigoma and his Bogichora counterpart Beuttah Omanga have termed the move as ‘wastage of taxpayers’ money’ and vowed to file an urgent motion to stop the proceedings from kicking off on Tuesday.

“I am totally opposed to this thing called Bunge Mashinani. The major role of MCA is to represent his or her people at the assembly so we can do the job by consulting our constituents before presenting any rising matter in the assembly,” Sironga said during a church service on Sunday at Rigoma.

Omanga said he will file an urgent application on Monday next week and he is optimistic that the speaker would table it for dissuasion.

“The idea is good but there is a lot more we can do without necessarily going to the grassroots. We can do that perfectly because it’s our constitutional role. I hope members will vote in favour of my application because we don’t want to hear issues of public funds wastage by residents,” he said.

Speaking separately at Ekerenyo Market on Sunday, Nyamoko urged MCAs to support the Bunge Mashinani initiative as a way of 'paving way for consultative leadership’.
