An official of Uasin Gishu County government wants the education sector devolved to improve quality.

The Chief Executive Officer in the ministry of Education in the county, Kenneth Misoi said this will ensure easy scrutiny and supervision of teachers to ensure they offer better services.

He argued that lack of supervision has made teachers to be lazy since their employer, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), sits in Nairobi and thus it is not easy to monitor them.

“Private schools perform better than public schools because the teachers are closely supervised by their employers and laziness and laxity is not condoned,” he said in his office in Eldoret on Thursday.

He reiterated that cases of innocent girls being abused by their teachers will be a thing of the past since they will be monitored and stern action taken against them.

This is not the case with the TSC which takes long to discipline a teacher, he said.

“Education is light and is the only investment which will bring forth fruits that a parent can offer to his or her child. I challenge them to invest in education and teachers should work hard in transforming the lives of the children they teach,” he said

Misoi urged teachers to embrace quality in offering their services instead of just focusing on money.
