The County Public Service Board and County Assembly Service Board have been urged to conduct civic education in Nyamira to educate residents on employment procedures.

Rigoma MCA Ben Sironga said many MCAs were facing a dilemma on the 2017 re-election with a section of constituents knocking at their door steps seeking employment.

Sironga said the perception that MCAs have the ability to employ people will cost a number of them their re-election bid, as residents are not ready to accept the reality that the powers to employ county officials are bestowed on the two boards.

“There is a looming crisis on elected leaders especially MCAs and it has to be solved. We are facing uncertainty on our re-election bids just because some residents still believe that we have the powers to employ them. We need the two boards to educate residents on employment procedures,” he said.

Sironga who spoke on Sunday afternoon in his ward said the education will help MCAs solve the dilemma which according to him was akin to a political suicide if it is not addressed soon.

“The civic education will be worthwhile because personally, I have tried to persuade people that I have no powers to employ but none seems to believe me. It will therefore be in order if CPSB and CASB address the issue amicably,” he added.

The ward rep urged the two boards to adhere to the constitution by taking into consideration regional and gender balance when recruiting officials in the county.
