Four people were on Tuesday charged in a Machakos court with intent to defraud.

Phineas Kimathi, Alex Muthomi, Evans Kinyua and Martin Munene, who appeared before Senior Magistrate Ngare Gesora pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court heard that on July 15 2015 at Syunguu area in Kathiani sub-county, with others not before the court, without authority made an “authority to pay” document contrary to Section 357 of the Penal Code.

The third and fourth accused also faced another charge of obtaining Sh30,000 from Hope Core International account at Equity Bank by pretending to be members of Enwas Hope Core Self Help Group.

They were released on Sh100,000 with surety of similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on October 8, 2015, while the hearing will be on October 20.

In the same court, Kenneth Musyemi also pleaded not guilty to arson charges.

He is accused of setting a house belonging to Alexander Mutino's house at Kithimani on fire on Wednesday last week.

He was released on Sh50,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on October 15, 2015, while the hearing will be on October 29, 2015.
