Deputy President William Ruto has reiterated the government’s commitment to provide standard one and two pupils with tablets from January 2016.

Speaking on Friday in Eldoret town, Ruto said the project will involve two local universities; the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Moi University.

The two, he said, will work in conjunction with an international computer company, JP from Portugal, to assemble the tablets.

"This project targets to deliver 1.2 million tablets in two years to 11,078 primary schools across the country each year," said the DP after commissioning a fertiliser factory in Eldoret.

He reiterated that the central Government under the Treasury has allocated a whopping Sh17.58 billion to the project which will be used in digital content development curriculum to be used in schools and capacity building.

The monies will also be used in training of the teachers and also the construction of computer laboratories for pupils from standard four to eight.
