A man at Maili Sita area in Bahati Nakuru County is appealing for help to see his alcoholic wife through rehabilitation.

Speaking at his kiosk in Bahati, Nicholas Kidenge noted that their 14-year marriage was on the verge of collapsing due to his wife’s uncontrolled drinking.

“I love my wife so much but time has come take a stand and accept she needs professional help,” Kidenge said.

Kidenge, a father of two, says he has become the laughing stock in the area due to his wife’s drunkenness, yet he is a teetotaller.

He says the wife started drinking when she lost her job five years ago after looking for alternative jobs in vain.

“After losing her job as a cook in a city private school, things took a sudden change,” explained Kidenge.

“My church loving wife started drinking seriously and never cared that she was impacting on me and the children. She was never available to receive our young child from school,” he added.

Kidenge recalls the numerous times he has been called to bring his drunken wife home late in the night.

“You can imagine being called to carry my own wife who cannot even lift a hand!” he laments.

Kidenge says he has tried all he can to change his wife but has not achieved much success.

“I have tried intervention from the clergy but it hasn't helped,” Kidenge says.

He says his wife is now addicted to the extent of being unable to do any chores without drinking.

He is now contemplating leaving her.

Area Chief Daniel Maina confirmed that Kidenge had sought assistance from his office further saying that plans were underway to see the wife registered in one of the rehabilitation centres recently launched.
