Kiambu county doctors went on a go slow on Tuesday protesting delayed July salaries.
According to Thika level five hospital medical superintendent, Dr Andrew Toro, the medics have boycotted their duties saying that the county government has also boycotted their duty to pay their salaries.
Toro said that service delivery this morning have become hard in the health institution and the patients that are being attended to are the ones who are in vital situation and they are using the few nurses in the hospital to attend to them
He further said that the students from the Kenya medical raining institute on practical and internship are also assisting in the attendance of the out patients.
In an exclusive interview with the hospital’s chief nursing officer, Rosemary Mwangi, the medics are alleged to have received a directive from the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) office.
Some of the doctors have however reported to their duties according to Toro, but they are just in the offices and not working following the directive.
The same incident has been experienced in Kiambu district hospital and according to sources, the doctors are demonstrating outside the hospital with their union’s officials.
Most of the patients in the area have been forced to seek medical attention from private clinics at the expensive fees as they have no otherwise.
Kiambu county Health executive is set to address the press this afternoon regarding the incident.
