Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has come to the defence of Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua stating that he was in order barring Cord from campaigning in Nakuru.

Governor Mbugua has criticised as detracting, the 'Okoa Kenya' push by the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord).

In an interview at a local television station, Wamatangi stated that the governor knows the region well and the coalition only wanted to incite people and instigate hatred in a region known for its diversity.

“As a leader, there are times you have to take choices that are for the good of the people. Nakuru was a hot-spot during the 2007/08 post-election violence and many people lost their lives due to irresponsible leaders’ utterances so the governor is right”, he said.

Governor Mbugua dared the opposition not to set foot in his county and even confiscated Cord’s signature collection booklets.

This was however not well received by the opposition who through their secretary general Anyang' Nyong'o stated that Kenya is a free nation and everyone has the freedom to move to every county with no restriction.

The senator said that the words used by Cord leaders during their campaigns are very provocative mentioning that issues like land grabbing can stir up violence in a nation that is still healing from the 2007/08 post-election violence aftermath.

He advised the leaders to put the interests of Kenyans at heart and not their own selfish agendas for political relevance.
