Kiplombe MCA Ramadhan Ali has said his ward has been sidelined in the ongoing slum upgrade conducted by the National Youth Service (NYS), an initiative of the Ministry of Devolution.
He says his ward has not benefitted from the projects initiated by the ministry since the NYS started hiring young people to embark on numerous development and infrastructural rehabilitation projects in various areas.
Speaking to HiviSasa on Tuesday Ali said that since the start of the programme all the neighbouring wards have benefitted saying that some of them are in their second phases.
“I have tried to reach the officials involved in the allocation of the NYS youths in different wards but I have only gotten empty promises that have yielded nothing since. As at now, nothing has been done despite my ward neighboring Eldoret town with estates like the West Market and Mwanzo that are very populated," he said.
The MCA claims that the alleged neglect of the ward in the NYS programmes is a deliberate move to paint him in bad light to ward residents because he belongs to the opposition.
The Uasin Gishu County Assembly minority leader has appealed for deployment of NYS youth to improve living standards in the areas he says are congested.
"I urge the ministry of devolution led by Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru and area MP, Elisha Busienei to intervene for the programme to be started in this ward just like the other wards that have felt the presence of NYS in their wards transforming lives," he said.
