Boikang’a ward representative in Kisii County Elkanah Nyandoro has called upon the county government to uplift village polytechnics and equip them with latest facilities to help them deliver to those youth who can’t make it to university and secondary schools respectively.
Addressing residents at Nyanchenge Polytechnic early on Monday Nyandoro said the area polytechnics risked closure if both the national and county government fail to uplift the old facilities that he says are not conducive for learning.
“Technology is invading in Kenya and it’s sad to see even at this time some of polytechnics don’t even have a computer and yet they are offering education to the youth. This poses a major risk of churning ignorant students who aren’t competitive,” said Nyandoro
He said the government should allocate more funds to the development of the polytechnics since they are very vital in the rural areas to offer hands-on skills to the youth and set them up for self-employment.
In the same event the MCA donated Sh200,000 for the purchase of laptops for the institution and promised to support a motion on the county assembly that will see the institutions receive more funds from the county government
