Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has said the county will host an East-African film conference in October to showcase talent.
Speaking during the homecoming ceremony for Oscar-winning actress Lupita Ny’ong’o on Wednesday at Ratta Girls Secondary school in Kisumu, the governor said that he has had talks with the Kenya Film Commission regarding the matter.
“The commission recognises the huge talent in Kisumu. In October they want to organise a big conference in Kisumu for East Africa as whole where people can showcase their talent,” he said.
He reminded citizens that talent is part of the 7-pillar pledge he made after being elected governor. The seven pillars he said would be the drivers of economic growth in Kisumu.
He lauded Lupita for her achievements and setting precedence for younger talented people in the country.
“Talent is unique. Lupita's success out there is what drove me to identify talent as a major pillar to nurture in Kisumu. We are proud of you,” said Ranguma.
He said the county government would involve her in the talent development program for the county.
Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang’ Ny’ong’o said the film industry should be named Lolihood after Nam Lolwe, the Luo name for Lake Victoria.
