Sameta MCA Evans Siko has called for fresh vetting of staff in the Kisii county government to ascertain their competency.

Speaking in his ward on Friday, Siko said he was not satisfied with the level of professionalism in recruiting county staff both by the County Assembly Service Board and County Public Serviced Board (CPSB).

According to the MCA, candidates with required qualification were sidelined to pave way for people without academic credentials hence putting in question the whole recruitment exercise.

“I have seen a number of people being denied jobs even with necessary requirements. What amuses me is that the recruiting board goes on to bring in individuals with questionable academic backgrounds,” he said.

Siko said he will soon table a motion in the county assembly to compel relevant authorities to conduct a fresh vetting exercise besides scrutinising the qualifications of those in question.

“I will table a motion to demand fresh vetting by a national body. Some of our brilliant minds are discriminated simply because they do not have someone who can defend them and this is a bad precedence,” he added.

However, CPSB chairman David Kombo dismissed the allegations as ‘cheap and individually motivated’ saying the people they recruited are the ‘best of the best’.
