Machakos County Women Representative Susan Musyoka has defended Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over claims that he grabbed 600 acres of land in Yatta, Machakos County belonging to National Youth Service.

Addressing journalists after attending a women meeting in Machakos town on Wednesday, Dr Musyoka said Kalonzo is an honest person. She said right legal procedures ought to have been used to settle the matter in case there were irregularities during the land acquisition instead of politicising it.

“I know the party leader acquired that land properly and those who have doubts know where to go and raise those queries," said Musyoka.

She said she does not oppose the development plans being carried out by Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua adding that she is ready to work with development oriented leaders in the county for the benefit of residents.

“I do not antagonise any of the projects that go on in this county. I am very supportive of development that will benefit the electorates of this county,” she said.

She, however, stated that she will not be party to any deals that will deny the residents of Machakos the services they need at the grassroots.

“What I will never support is if there are deals that go on within the county that will hurt women, children, youth and the general electorates. But as far as I am concerned, I want leaders in this county to work in harmony so that we can realise development,” Musyoka stated

Musyoka noted that the proposed funds for women representatives will go a long way in empowering women at the grassroots level.

She added that as representatives of women in counties, Women Representatives have started initiatives like table banking for women to help uplift their living standards.

“Now we have a fund called the Affirmative Action Social Development Fund which is going to Sh7 million per sub county. It is little but we will use it well to make a difference in our counties. We will work with women, youth and persons with disabilities," said Musyoka.
