One more suspect in the Nakuru-Eldoret highway robbery was on Tuesday arraigned in court bringing the total number of suspects to twelve.
Kevin Kimutai pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate, Doreen Mulekyo to charges of violently robbing Titus Kiplagat off assorted goods and a Mitsubishi lorry worth Sh9 million along with others already charged on July 15.
Kimutai was released on a bond of Sh1 million or cash bail of Sh300,000. On July 28, Peter Gachie, a traffic officer was arrested and charged after he was linked to the same highway theft which occurred at Salgaa area along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to police, the suspects with others all dressed in traffic police uniform at 6.45pm stopped the lorry, accused the complainant of speeding before ordering the occupants to enter into another car and drove them off to unknown place where the cargo was offloaded into another vehicle.
The lorry was transporting computers, mobile phones and cloths worth Sh9 millions Nairobi.
Chief Principle Magistrate, Wakumile Ndururu on Tuesday extended the warrants of the bonded suspects till August 28 for all the suspects to avail themselves before court for consolidation of the charges.
Some of the assorted goods worth Sh4 million were recovered at Syokimau in Nairobi and suspects charged while a canter lorry carrying mobile phones was also recovered.
The complainants lawyer, Steve Kabita had made an application to release the recovered properties to the victim because the goods are perishable under the conditions at the police station.
Ndururu also said that the application by Kabita will be heard on August 28 alongside the consolidation of the files since it seems the investigations are still ongoing.
