West Mugirango residents now want the county government of Nyamira to redo the Kebigigo-Esani road which was rehabilitated a month ago.

The residents held a demonstration on Tuesday to to protest the poor state of the road.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com, they threatened to paralyse activities at the Kebigiro trading centre if the county leadership fails to have the road redone.

They further demanded to know the amount of money that had been allocated for the renovation of the road, claiming the project had been hatched to steal public money.

“This road is crucial in our constituency and its current state is really worrying. The county government renovated it less than a month ago, but it impassable and something urgent should be done before we go to streets,” said Pius Mbaka on behalf of disgruntled residents.

According to them, the purported upgrade of the done by unknown contractor may have been a scheme by the county leadership to steal taxpayers’ money.

“How can they really substantiate the quality of the job that was done? This is a clear demonstration of how taxpayers’ money is being wasted by the county leadership,” he added.

However, County Road Committee Chairman Ben Sironga, who spoke to Hivisasa.com on phone, defended the works, saying the road will be further improved in the second phase of the project.

“We are in the process of commencing the second phase and the committee has already done the proposal,” he said.
