Business along the Kisii-Keroka Road was on Wednesday paralysed after enraged residents held demonstrations over a road accident near Kegati market that left a student nursing serious injuries.
The angry residents vowed to block the road until their demand to have road bumps erected on the road was met in order to curb road accidents.
They said lack of bumps at the black spot has contributed to the increase of road accidents in the area.
One of the residents, Paul Omwancha, said the county government should erect speed bumps to prevent future loss of lives through accidents.
Mr Omwancha said, “We are very angry by the rate of accidents in this area. We have lost many lives because of speeding motorists. Many people have been knocked and killed along the stretch by hit and run motorists.”
It took the intervention of police officers to calm the angry residents who promised to erect bumps in the area, if the county government fails to heed to their demand.
County Commander of Police Simon Kiragu who confirmed the accident said they have launched investigations into the matter.
Mr Kiragu said the student was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
“The student sustained serious injuries when he was hit by the car while crossing the road,” he said.
Mr Kiragu cautioned road users to observe road regulations and avoid driving at dangerous speeds to prevent loss of lives.
