Several bar owners in Kisii are reported to have moved their consignments of second generation liquor to residential houses.

Despite most alcohol outlets remaining closed in most estates in Kisii unscrupulous owners have converted their homes into drinking places.

Police have now shifted their crackdown on illicit brew to focus on residential areas with the help of residents to identify private homes that are hoarding alcohol.

Residents have called for the inspection of all drinking outlets before owners are allowed to continue doing businesses so as to ensure safety and sanity in their conduct of business.

The county government has said it is dedicated to the fight against illicit brew. The county has said it will not renew licenses of wines and spirit shops until proper guidelines are put in place to safeguard consumers.

According to the Kisii County Secretary, Denis Ombongi, the fight against illicit alcohol will be beneficial to not only those who take it but to the community also.

“We will work with the national government to ensure we have a sober society and transform lives,” Ombungi said.
