Police in Thika Town arrested a motorist and recovered 90 bullets and seven magazines on Saturday.
According to the police sources, Ibrahim Muriuki was caught up by the NTSA and traffic police officers along the Thika superhighway near Jomoko junction and after checking his vehicle they recovered the devices.
Thika OCPD, Erastus Muthamia said that they have identified the bullets and the magazines to be those of a Ceska pistol. However the suspect has refuted that he holds a gun and said that he was sent by a licensed gun holder in Mombasa to transport them to him but failed to convince the police why he had to transport them without the pistol itself.
Muthamia said that they are holding the suspect in Thika police station and interrogating him to get more information.
The officer said that they could not be convinced as theft suspects using guns and pistols have recently increased in Thika.
“We have to investigate him before we release him and then later he commits a crime. It’s not easy to let anyone go at this moment when the guns criminals have increased in this area,” he said.
The police are also looking for the owner of the pistol in collaboration with Mombasa police officers as directed by the suspect.
He will be prosecuted if found guilty according to the OCPD.
