The Ethics and anti-corruption commission (EACC) officers have arrested two prosecutors from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Kisumu for allegedly receiving bribes to influence a case.
The two, Sonye Herbert Okumu and Jared Kipyegon Ruto, were arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a benefit of Sh15,000 as an inducement to facilitate the reinstatement of a case after the police had recommended to the DPP that the case be withdrawn.
In a statement by the EACC officer in charge of Western Region Edwin Wahudo, the two were arrested at the Huduma Centre, seventh floor on Tuesday afternoon and taken to Railways Police Station where they were held.
The two have been accused of soliciting and benefiting from a bribe from Henry Omollo Ongweto to facilitate the re-instatement of Kisumu criminal case No.198 of 2015.
They were released on a police bond of Sh20, 000 each and are set to appear before an anti-corruption court in Homa Bay on September 9.
