The students say that they are forced to give certain amounts of money if they are found on the wrong side of the university rules.

An example is the 10-10 rule, which states that no student is allowed to host a female or male visitor after 10pm in the hostels.

The students claim that security guards from the Bedrock Company walk around hostels looking for students who have broken the rule and ask for bribes from the students, failure to which they are taken to university authorities.

Brian Barasa, a second year student at the university says he once fell victim.

"I was forced to part with Sh150 after two officers caught me at my female friend's room," said Barasa.

He said that he had to do that to avoid being forwarded to the authorities for disciplinary action.

Irene Sheryl, a fourth year student said the practise has been going on in the campus for the past few semesters.

"When I was in my first year, I never heard of such, but now, it is the order of the day," she said.

Security officers in the campus have however rubbished the allegations, saying the students are out to make them lose their jobs.

Mr Josiah Omedo, a security officer said, "I have not heard of such and I don't think it is happening. The students are out to ruin our reputation and make us lose our jobs."
