Kiambu County Sports and Youths Affairs CeC Machel Waikenda has praised the ongoing works to renovate and uplift the standards of several sports grounds across the county.

Speaking on Tuesday when he visited Cianda, Karori and Muchatha in Kiambaa Sub-County, Waikenda commended the ongoing works saying it is in line with the realisation of up-to standards sports facilities in the county.

“This is the first step the county government has taken to ensure public facilities are not left in derelict as the members of the public need them. I want to applaud the ongoing works especially in Kawaida as the youth and those who want to use the ground are set to benefit largely upon completion," said Waikenda.

He added: “The works were briefly halted awaiting the long rains to subside and there is no barrier now to hastening the renovations."

The country government of Kiambu has set aside funds for the face-lifting of major stadia across the county as well as play grounds especially in schools that are often used by youths for sports purposes.

“The county government is committed to supporting the youths and sports across the 12 sub-counties and we shall roll out renovation plans for more grounds across the county. If we continue the fight on illicit brews and we do not give our youths an alternative way of spending their free time, where will they turn to?” said Waikenda.
