While there are growing concerns over time lost by learners following the nationwide teachers strike that lasted for at least five weeks, most public school teachers in Kibera have no worries about the same.
According to some of the teachers, they had covered the syllabus during second term period thus dedicating third term for revision.
Olympic Primary School, a renowned school is one of the public schools where pupils and teachers have insisted that they are ready for the KCPE and end year examinations despite taking part in the strike.
"We have no pressure despite the teachers strike because we completed the syllabus by the end of second term in July. We are now focusing on serious revision and the pupils have kept the right rhythm," insisted Caleb Ochieng, headteacher, during an interview in his office on Wednesday.
On his opinion, Raila Educational Centre Principal Paul Ojera said despite the fact that some classes had not covered the syllabus, there is enough time to compensate for the time lost during the strike.
"There are remedial hours that shall be used to compensate for the time lost. We shall spend one hour in the morning and another one hour in the evening; and also the prep lessons which are commonly referred to as free lessons are going to be spread out thus enabling the teachers to cover the syllabus," said Ojera.
"The government has also spread additional time to elongate the term for instance we expect to extend by at least one more week for this term. That is enough for syllabus coverage," added Ojera.
Derick Were, a form three student at Olympic High School is full of confidence as he says most of the students have been working extra hard despite the absence of the teachers in schools during the strike.
"We were busy revising our work considering that we had exhausted the syllabus for most subjects. We are not worried and i believe we shall cover the remaining bit; our KCSE candidates are even better placed because they had covered almost everything," expressed Were.
