Drug and alcoholic addicts in Nakuru are set to benefit from a rehabilitation programme following a partnership between the county government and a private entity, Link Therapeutic Centre.
Speaking on Tuesday when he received a proposal from the centre, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said he will constitute a team to chart the way forward for the partnership, lauding the initiative that has rehabilitated over 30 people since the fight against illicit and second generation brews was launched.
"I'm optimistic with this partnership as it will impact positively to changing the lives of drugs and alcoholic addicts," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Dr Waithanji Mutiti, chairman, County Public Service Board who said the partnership is noble and as the county constitutes the Alcoholics Control Board, the therapeutic centre could be used for intervention measures.
"Although this initiative squarely falls within the mandate of his office it requires multi-sector approach and called for the involvement of Health, Youth and Public Service Management Departments," he said.
The Link Therapeutic Centre directors led by chairman of the Board of Directors Joseph Gichuru, commended the support extended to the facility by the county government saying the opportunity that was extended to them to exhibit at this year’s Nakuru ASK fair propelled their publicity and are now receiving people from all over the country.
