Matungulu police boss Joseph Chesire has urged parents to take care of their children during the rainy season.

Speaking on Monday to residents outside his office in Matungulu Town, Chesire urged parents to take care of their school going children during the rainy season in a bid to avoid accidents such as cases of children drowning.

"It is our responsibility as parents to ensure the safety of our children. We are likely to experience floods in this area which will pose danger to our children who use these roads on a daily basis while going to school,” said Chesire.

The Matungulu OCS further urged farmers to avoid planting near river banks as there is a big probability of their crops being swept away by rain water.

"Farmers should make informed choices during this planting season to avoid incurring loses as a result of planting their crops along river banks. The water levels at Athi River and Yatta Canal are already rising so farmers should not plant their crops in such areas,” said Chesire.
