More than 14 transformers will be installed in Juja sub-county in the first quarter of this year to increse the sub-county's access to power, Eng. Eric Salim of Thika power plant has said.
Speaking from Thika power plant, Eng. Salim said that through Juja CDF, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company will ensure that the residents of Witeithie, Nyacaba, Mungetho, Muigai-ini, and Juja farm among others will receive subsidized electricity.
He said that the project aims at reaching the households of residents living within 600 meters of a transformer to ensure that every resident gets the required amount of electricity.
Eng. Salim revealed that the 14 transformers have already been delivered in Juja, claims that have been confirmed true by the Juja MP Francis Munyua who said that he has received the 14 of them and that they are safely kept awaiting fixation by the power men.
Munyua said that he has liaised with the chiefs and their assistants from respective locations to ensure those that will receive cheap electricity are registered ahead of the exercise set to commence earlier next month.
The Kenya Power Company has opted to install dry transformers in the vandalism prone areas like Witeithie and Nyacaba areas to reduce the losses arising from the demand of transformer oil.
