Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has reiterated his government’s quest to have the less fortunate children access education.
Governor Ongwae, whose government has dedicated resources in bursaries to children from poor backgrounds, said access to education for poor is the only sure way on the road to success.
“In the last financial year, we tripled the allocation to Sh135 million with each ward receiving Sh3 million disbursed to over 41,000 beneficiaries. This financial year, we have further increased this fund to Sh225 million with each ward set to receive Sh5 million,” said the governor.
The governor was speaking on Friday at the Equity Bank’s Wings to fly beneficiaries’ event in Kisii. He thanked the Equity Group Foundation and partners for supporting this noble initiative that seeks to give scholarships to bright and needy students in the community.
A total of 25 needy students from Kisii County met the selection criteria to be among the beneficiaries of the program.
Ongwae urged the Equity Foundation to increase numbers of beneficiaries from Kisii County to at least 42 as per other counties.
