A three month old baby girl has this Wednesday morning been rescued by neighbors in Ruiru after her mother allegedly locked her in the house last night and left. According to the neighbors, the mother of the child is allegedly a regular drunkard and that even when she was pregnant, she would come home late drunk.

Scolastica Wairimu, an immediate neighbor said that at around 12 midnight, the woman was picked by someone who came driving.

"At around 3am, the child started crying and I woke up and called other neighbors to assist me in finding a way to rescue the baby since when a child like this cries for long its dangerous. We came out and at around 6am, we were able to break in the house and rescue the baby," said Wairimu.

She further said that this was the fourth time stating that she had even been summoned by the chief once for this behavior but she kept on repeating the same.

Ruiru OCPD SSP Isaac Thuranira said that the child was rescued by neighbors thanking them for their efforts with regards to rescuing the baby. He said that the mother of the child is being looked for by the police for committing the crime and that she will be charged for negligence.

The police boss further warned parents against committing this crime stating that in November last year, such a case was reported but that the child had already collapsed due to crying for long and had passed on.

"Parents need to understand that their children are not only theirs but also the community's at large and therefore when you commit such a crime, we will arrest you and charge you accordingly. The child has been taken to Faith children’s center where she will be nursed and taken care of," said Thuranira.
