Five people have been reported dead after the vessel they were using to cross a dam, sunk in Masinga Dam near Kathini area in Masinga Constituency, Machakos County.
The accident occurred on Thursday morning as residents were crossing over from Kikule, Milaani and Tana all in Muthesya location to Ekalakala market.
The unfortunate incident has been confirmed by the Masinga County Commissioner John Odengo.
"The exercise to save more people is ongoing but we have saved already 6 people who were rushed to the Ekalakala hospital while five others were already dead," Odengo said.
The administrator condemned the incident stating it was avoidable but due to overload and greed of more money, lives were lost.
"Its unfortunate as the accident could have been avoided as it was caused by overloaded boat.it was carrying among many things 4 motor bicycles and sucks of maize," Odengo said.
