A Kisumu based human rights activist has urged the government to withdraw Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers from Somalia.
Mr Dickens Okunda said that following the recent attack on KDF base that left several soldiers dead, the government should not just watch as Kenyan soldiers get killed yet pulling them out of Somalia can end the crisis.
"We have lost so many people in the hands of Al Shabaab, and their only demand is to pull our soldiers from there. We should just do that because eliminating the group seems impossible. For the sake of peace the government should recall our soldiers," said Okunda.
Okunda said that the government should stop playing tough in the wake of this recent attack that left many families of the fallen soldiers mourning.
"Most families are now without their bread winners, that means there is some suffering coming ahead. Let this be the last one. Nobody wants any other family to go through this nightmare especially not being aware of the fate of your loved one," he said.
Okunda said the Kenyan government had done enough in restoring stability in Somalia and if the whole exercise has become costly then it is time to pull out.
"We are spending a lot in facilitating the peace keeping mission in Somalia yet the price is loss of lives. Let's gets this money and pump it into other sectors of the economy or else things will get worse," he added.
