A section of travellers on the Nakuru –Eldoret were forced to delay their journey following a crackdown on vehicles flouting traffic rules on the busy highway.

Molo traffic commander Nderitu Maina maintained that the traffic department will act on drivers breaking traffic regulations endangering lives.

Nderitu who replaced base commander Richard Masinde who was transferred to Kitui a month ago decried the increased number of accidents on the highway adding that police had intensified day and night patrols to control traffic.

He said several accidents have been reported at Kamara, Total, Kibunja and Sachagwan adding that the main cause of those accidents is speeding and freewheeling.

Nderitu who was previously in Nyandarua County maintained that drivers must adhere to rules as the first measure to curb reckless driving.

Addressing drivers at total trading centre along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway the officer called on passengers to report public service vehicle operators who are ignoring traffic rules putting travellers’ lives at risk.

He said passengers had a vital role to play in bring sanity into the transport industry urging them to expose offenders.
