Kisumu County Ford Kenya party officials now want to be allowed to vet aspiring candidates for the next general election.
The officials who after holding an executive meeting resolved that they should be allowed to vet candidates.
They said the party head office should not get involved in the exercise.
“We have an established electoral board and therefore candidates must appear before us and be vetted,” said Moses Ochieng, one of the executives.
He stated that many of the candidates the party brings to them are not known and are not popular among the electorate yet they are going to run on a party ticket.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the officials threatened to reject any candidates given certificates from Nairobi without consulting them.
Currently the party has one member of the National Assembly in Kisumu, John Olago Aluoch who won the Kisumu West parliamentary seat on the party ticket.
“Should a candidate be imposed on us without being vetted down here, we shall reject him or her and we will support our rivals,” he added.
The officials also asked aspirants to come well in advance and not come in the last minute after defecting from other parties.
They appealed to the Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula to strive to unite all branches ahead of 2017 general elections.
“Our party leader Moses Wetangula must now focus on party issues and on how to popularise Ford Kenya,” said Gustoh Oketch, the county Ford Kenya Chairperson.
