Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has slammed remarks made a top ODM official regarding his chances of defending his gubernatorial seat in 2017 elections through the party.

On Monday, Nyamira County Assembly Majority Whip Peter Maroro expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with the leadership of Nyagarama.

In a quick rejoinder on Tuesday at the county headquarters when he received health officials who have been issuing mosquito nets for the past one week, Nyagarama urged ODM officials to help him deliver before engaging in politics.

He said the county was finding it cumbersome to push developmental agendas due to persistent politicking by a section of leaders.

“I do not deny that I am a member of the party (ODM) but it is important if they support development at expense of party politics. It is not necessary for some leaders to continue politicking and threatening us of nominations yet elections are far away,” he said.

Nyagarama accused Maroro of igniting ‘tension’ within the party members and said the Manga MCA was after making himself relevant in politics.

“It is not proper for him to ignite tension within the party. I have been a member and I joined by choice,” he added.

Nyagarama defeated his fierce competitor Charles Mochama in the ODM nominations before the latter ditched the party for TIP TIP.
