The onset of rains in several parts of Nakuru County has triggered anxiety among residents of Rhonda estate in Nakuru West with fears of floods.
The residents have expressed apprehension over their fate should the rains continue, considering that no measures have been put in place to mitigate floods which displaced scores late last year.
"We are living in fear of being displaced again should the rains continue because the defective drainage system is still with us," lamented Grace Kibe.
The drainage which was destroyed by raging floods from the nearby Dunduri hills has continued to pose fear among the locals.
James Mwaniki recounts pensively how he lost his livestock to the floods and only hopes there will be no repeat of the ordeal.
"These rains are really worrying me. I just hope that they don't trigger another wave of floods as was the case late last year," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Dorothy Akinyi who said they were bracing for the worst following the renovation of roads in the area which have left them exposed as no proper drainage systems have been put in place.
The residents now want the county government to walk the talk on repairing the defective drainage instead of constantly giving them false promises and consoling them after the damage has been done.
