Parents have been challenged to be open and frank with their children and discuss issues that are affecting them in the society.
According to Kepha King’oina who is a community clinical officer, youths have engaged themselves in evil activities because of the laxity from their parents.
King’oina who was speaking on Monday at Kisii town said that many youths have been infected with HIV/AIDS while others have involved themselves in drugs simply because of lack of proper guidance from their parents who sometimes fear to talk to their children about what is happening in the current days.
“Most of the youths nowadays are affected with many things simply because parents are not free and open to talk with them in order to advise them on the the right path to take,” said King’oina
Unlike old days where youths used to be advised only by their grandparents, King’oina said that parents should take full responsibility of telling their children what is going on without hiding anything.
“Parents should be open and give their children the necessary advice which will keep them from getting into traps, they should not fear telling them what the current world is like since the more they keep off the more they spoil their children,” said King’oina
He also said that many young girls are getting early pregnancies because of poor communication with their parents with regards to sex.
“Mothers should also take time with their daughters to advise them on how to protect themselves from such issues,” added King’oina
