As the 2017 elections campaign mood sets in Nakuru County, politicians are already strategising on how they are not only going to lure voters but also win their votes.
Most politicians are now focused on winning votes from groups as opposed to individuals, and one group being mostly targeted are the boda boda and tuk tuk operators.
According to a Nakuru based political analyst Daniel Wanjala, the two groups form a rich voting bloc considering the number of young men working in the sector.
Wanjala says politicians will be keen on winning the hearts and votes of boda bodas because the votes mean a lot to them.
“There are thousands of young men working as boda boda and tuk tuk operators in the county and they will be a major target for politicians as the campaigns kick in. You will see them with reflector jackets bearing portraits of certain politicians,” said Wanjala.
He added; “Any politician who wins the hearts of these young men will have a head start because they will come in handy during the campaigns as long as the politician can fuel their motorbikes and tuk tuks.”
Wanjala adds that the boda boda riders are so many that they can elect their own MCA and MP if they unite, and that is why they will mean a lot to politicians ahead of 2017.
“Do you know these guys are so many that if they decide they can elect their own MP because they have the numbers and that is why then can’t be taken for granted by any serious politician,” he said.
