The body of a bodaboda operator was retrieved on Wednesday in Yathui river in Mwala sub-county.
Yathui chief Stephen Kiki confirming the incident said that the man had left his motorbike in Miondoni market and was heading home when he drowned while trying to cross the river.
Chief Kiki said the volume of the water had increased due to the heavy rain that had been experienced in the area.
The body of the man was discovered by children who were herding cattles where he had been carried a kilometre away from where people cross the river.
"He had come from work when he drowned trying to cross the river," said Kiki.
The body of the man was taken to Machakos level five hospital mortuary. The chief cautioned residents not to cross rivers at night or after a heavy downpour.
