The body of a teenage boy who was attacked on Sunday and dragged into water by a crocodile at Ngege Beach along Lake Victoria in Kisumu has been found.

A local search team organised by Magnum Environmental Network stumbled upon the body Monday morning.

The Network chairman Michael Nyaguti said they ended the search on Sunday evening due to darkness and resumed this morning when the body was found.

Nyaguti said the body was found flouting and the search team on boats pulled it out of water.

He said the condition of the body was not bad noting that the crocodile might have abandoned it when locals on boats immediately pursued it.

“The body is in good shape, I think when rescue team rushed in time and the crocodile panicked and abandoned its kill,” he said.

Nyaguti said they suspect that it was the same crocodile that attacked a fisherman almost 800 meters away from the scene.

The fishermen sustained serious injuries and is recuperating at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital.

Nyaguti urged the Kenya Wildlife Service to track and kill the rogue crocodile.

He further warned locals to keep off bathing or drawing water from the lake and told fishermen to stop fishing at the shores of the lake but go to the deep waters.

He said the crocodile can attack again and locals should now be vigilante as a way of protecting lives.

“Let this be the last incident where we are losing a life. Our people should be careful while at the shores of the lake,” he said.
