Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been warned against allowing ‘unnecessary’ voter transfer to Kitutu Masaba, a claim area MP Timothy Bosire says amounts to election malpractice.
Mr Bosire who was speaking on Monday at Manga expressed his concerns on alleged voter transfer from neighbouring Kitutu Chache North, insisting that the plan is being orchestrated by his opponents.
He urged IEBC to take charge and investigate the claims failure to which he would call for halting of the exercise in the region.
"We all want registration of voters or even the transfer but it should be objective. It’s really disappointing that some people are being trafficked from neighboring Kitutu Chache North to my constituency. This is a wider plan by my opponents to rig and time has come for IEBC to take responsibility or we compel them to stop registering,” he said.
The ODM legislator said he was willing to provide evidence in support of his claims and challenged IEC to do an internal memo that would ban transfer of voters from neighboring constituencies.
“I know we have many legal gray areas about voter transfer but the unnecessary voter transfer in which people are organized is illegal. I have evidence which I can provide to the electoral team so it is better they ban transferring of voters from neighbouring constituencies. This amounts to rigging of elections,” he said.
He revealed his intention to table a Bill that would introduce stiff conditions for someone to qualify for voter transfer.
“The voter transfer in the election’s clause must be used objectively. People are mutilating and I will soon table a Bill that will introduce stiffer conditions. We want IEBC for now to control mass influx of people expressing their intention to register in neighboring constituencies. Only natives should be allowed to transfer to their home constituencies,” he said.
