A section of Nakuru residents have called on the county government to formulate a policy that will get rid of street families from Nakuru town streets.

A majority who spoke to this writer noted that something needs to be done as a matter of urgency, arguing that the swelling numbers of the street urchins especially in the town centre, was worrying.

"Beggars and street children are all over our town lately as if no relevant authority is concerned. Let the county government know that we are concerned as parents, because we believe something has to be done," noted Belinda Nyambura, a children's rights expert.

She called on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to fast track reforms aimed at not only eliminating them from the streets, but also finding a lasting solution that will see those willing to back off from the streets find an alternative home.

"Over the years, we have seen them out of here but after some few months they are back because of lack of follow up and proper arrangement," she said.

This comes barely a week after nominated Senator Martha Wangare also tasked the Mbugua administration to deal with the street children menace in Nakuru saying the most affected ones were mothers who are forced to endure the harsh conditions raising their children.
