Uasin Gishu County deputy governor Daniel Chemno has urged the national government to declare cancer a national disaster.
Speaking at the Eldoret District Hospital on Thursday during the marking of World Cancer Day, Chemno said cancer is more dangerous than HIV/Aids since it claims many lives.
"Yearly, 38,000 new cancer cases are reported and over 27,000 lives are lost in Kenya due to cancer," he said.
He urged Kenyans to go for cancer screening, at least once a year, since the disease can affect anyone at anytime.
