An administration assistant chief from Nyamira county has banned festivals held in the region without an approval from the government.

Mr Sambu Bosire of Riamoni sub location was responding to an incident in which underage children were found drunk for allegedly taking liquor in an overnight ceremony in the region.

Speaking on Tuesday when he hosted community policing members and members of the public in a Baraza, the outspoken assistant chief said the government would not hesitate to take an action for individuals who defied the directive.

“I understand this is a festive season but some ceremonies involving many members of the public ought to be approved by the government. We want organizers to be responsible for any misbehavior like what we witnessed on Sunday,” he said.

Sambu said some of the ceremonies have been taken as an avenue to break the law with people taking the opportunity to take illicit brew and narcotic drugs.

“The simple reason as to why you must get an approval is that we want to combat instances where people take an advantage to smoke narcotics and take illicit brew. We must all respect the law and I can’t allow someone to take advantage of the festivals to break the law,” he said.

He said the government was on the process of arresting a convener of the party in which underage children were reportedly found drunk, who has since gone missing.
