Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has called on the church and religious leaders to help in mobilising Kenyans to register as voters in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Ngunjiri urged church leaders to take sometime during their services to talk about the importance of voter registration and urge their congregation to register in large numbers.
Speaking Tuesday evening at the Heshima registration center, Ngunjiri said Kenyans trust church leaders and will always do what the leaders tell them.
“If our church leadership can talk to their members and ask then to register, then it will be very good because we will be sure of getting as many people to register,” he said.
“Religious leaders are trusted and respected by many and if they speak their word is trusted and they should take that advantage and urge people to register,” he added.
Ngunjiri added that he will also be moving around churches in his constituency every Sunday to urge people to register as voters.
“I will be moving around all major churches in Bahati to talk to people and tell them why they should go out and register as voters before the exercise ends,” he said.
He called on his constituents not to wait for the last minute rush saying the IEBC might not extend the registration period after the month-long drive.
