The Nakuru County Public Health and Sanitation department has sent a stern warning to city landlords whose tenants dispose garbage carelessly as a quarantine measure to help contain the cholera menace in the County.

This comes after officers from the department on Monday traversed different estates on the outskirts of Nakuru town checking on how garbage was being disposed.

Addressing the press in Nakuru town, chief officer in the department Dr Samuel King’ori cautioned irresponsible landlords saying that the trend is on the rise.

“It has come to our attention that some house owners have no organised way by which their tenants can dispose their garbage,” King’ori said.

“We also have private companies contracted to facilitate garbage collection in different areas so as to ensure that our residential areas remained clean,” he added.

According to the Nakuru landlords’ association chair Korir arap Rono, the blame was falling on all of them while the mistake was only for a few of them.

“Our mandate is to provide our services in the best way possible, such an issue is very sensitive that need to be addressed as a matter of urgency. We thank the department of highlighting it and promise to ensure all our members comply in due time,” he said.

The Public Health and Sanitation department is strategizing on how best to deal with cholera cases that have been prevalent in different sub-counties of Nakuru.
