Speaking on Wednesday during a workshop at Kisii University, Patricia Kimanthi, the Corporate Communications manager of KEBS, said that Kenyans ought to take responsibility and report any suspicious product that has not been standardised.

"We are custodians of what we consume and have the power to say yes or no! We see all these malpractices but the problem is that we do not report them," she said.

Kimanthi added that the management uses international standards to monitor the quality of both imports and exports, not excluding internal products.

Gladys Ombongi, an employee of KEBS, said that they cooperate with the police when dealing with fraudsters and counterfeit products.

"Counterfeiting is illegal and unfair trade. We therefore work with the police to arrest fraudsters," said Ombongi.

The statutory body also cooperates with other government agencies to ensure quality standards for consumers.
