The union's Nakuru branch chair Mr Julius Nyambaka accused some top county officers of a witch hunt drive against the officials through arbitrary transfers.

“The county has embarked on an unnecessary transfer of top union officials, a move we can link to the recent health workers' strike,” said Nyambaka.

The union official accused the county government of disregarding a return to work formula signed on August 22, in which medics who took part in the strike were assured that they will not be victimised.

He claimed that more medics were targeted in the reshuffle aimed at intimidating those who advocated for the rights of the health workers.

However, county health minister Dr Daniel Kabii Mungai dismissed the claims saying there was no malice in the transfers.

“We transferred more than 400 health workers in a bid to improve delivery of services in the various hospitals and health centres across the county. Nobody is targeting any particular officer,”  Dr Mungai maintained.

He added that the ministry was acting within its mandate and had no sinister motive behind the transfers of health workers in Nakuru.

The medics were demanding salary arrears and an expeditious promotions.
